Read Like a Writer Writing forms such as memoirs and personal narratives share personal experiences with readers. In a personal narrative, the writer describes an important event from his or her life and expresses how he or she felt about the experience. A personal narrative can make readers think, laugh, or learn something new about the writer. While many types of narrative writing use a third-person point of view (he, she, they, him, her, them), personal narratives use a first-person point of view, (I, me, my) as if the writer is telling a personal story directly to the reader.
