Opinion/Persuasive essay: an essay where the writer forms an opinion about a topic, often in the form of an answer to a question, and uses factual and anecdotal evidence to support that opinion. Hook: a statement said at the beginning of an essay to grab the reader's attention. Thesis: a sentence that describes what your whole essay will be about. |

Introduction paragraph: In academic writing, it sets up your argument and tells the reader what to expect. The main goals of an introduction are to: Catch your reader's attention. Gives background on your topic. Body paragraph: The middle paragraphs between your introduction and concluding paragraph. A good paragraph should contain at least the following four elements: Transition, Topic sentence, specific Evidence and analysis, and a Brief wrap-up sentence Conclusion paragraph: The conclusion paragraph is the last paragraph of your essay. It should begin by restating your thesis, and then you should broaden back out to a general topic. End with a closing statement. Transition words: Key words in which create powerful links between ideas in your paper and can help your reader understand the logic of your paper. |
